Writer and Lyricist Jalees Sherwani for more than two decades

Jalees Sherwani is a much-published writer and satirist whose articles and poems have been published in leading Hindi and Urdu publications all over the country. He happened to bump into veteran lyricist Naqsh Lyallpuri and to his surprise he had read a lot of his work and rated it highly. Lyricist Naqsh Lyallpuri sent him to Devi Dutta, the well-known film and television producer and was signed for the screen play and dialogues of the serial Apne Paraye. Devi Dutta then introduced him to Tarachand Barjatyaji and RajKumar Barjatyaji of Rajshri Productions, who gave him Pratighaat as dialogues writer. The film proved a trendsetter and the biggest hit of 1987 and after that he never looked back. He wrote about 30 films since and over 300 television episodes that included Reshammiya's first serial Andaz and Mahesh Bhatt's Zameen Aasman. All his films were extensions of his love for satire- hard-hitting subjects with angstridden dialogues. He took out all his anger against the system.
After meeting with two talented gentlemen Sajid- Wajid made him try out penning lyrics, for a single song in Mitti in 2001 and then all songs for Kya Yehi pyaar hai in 2002. The list includes Hum Tumhaare hain Sanam, Garv, Mujse Shaadi karogi, Partner, Welcome, God Tussi Great Ho, and now Hello and all their forthcoming films. Jaleesji admires Gulzar saab who can turn even an item number like Bidi Jalaile into something.
