Anant Narayan to make an unconventional silver screen debut with a Bengali/ English Film - Anirbaan

It's finally official and the wait is over. Entertainment journalist turned upcoming cine star Anant Narayan has bagged his first film. True to his inimitable andaaz, Anant is all set to make a rather unconventional debut on the silver screen. He will start his filmy innings with a regional film tentatively titled Anirbaan, which will be dubbed and internationally released in two languages - Bengali and English. This promising project will be directed by first time Bengali filmmaker Rajeshwari Dasgupta. A rather content Anant says, "I honestly couldn't have asked for a better start. Anirbaan is a dream debut for any actor. I was looking for something cutting edge as my launchpad, something offbeat yet something that would stimulate and challenge my abilities as an actor and my wait ended with Anirbaan. When Rajeshwari (Dasgupta) offered me the film, I didn't bat an eyelid before saying 'yes'. Though its too early to talk about the film, all I can say at this point is that the script of the Anirbaan is nothing short of brilliant and Rajeshwari has done a superb job with the screenplay. I can't wait to start shooting now" says Anant.

Though Anant, Rajeshwari and the rest of the team of Anirbaan chooses to remain tight-lipped about the film, a source close to the project tells us more. "Anirbaan is an adaptation of a Shakespearean play in which Anant will essay the role of Anirbaan, the lead protagonist. Apart from him, the film stars a Bengali model turned actress Aromicca Bose, who is also making her debut with this film. She will play Anant's love interest in the film. But the undisputed star of the film will be Anant. It's his film all the way"

Anirbaan is slated to go on floors in March 2009, and is currently at its pre-production stage. Apart from Anant and Aromicca, the rest of the cast is being finalised

As for Anant's grand Bollywood debut, he is currently in talks with some of the biggest filmmakers in Bollywood. It may also be remembered that Anant had earlier been offered a recently released big banner Hindi film which he declined because the role demanded him to play a journalist in his debut film, which Anant politely declined since he believed it would have typecast him. Previously, there were wild rumours that Anant would be making his much talked about Bollywood debut as the third romantic lead in Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, but the actor categorically denied being part of the film
